Visual Analysis Military Commercial - 1812 Words
Visual Analysis: Army Commercial After reviewing a few videos based on United States Army propaganda while on a popular media site it was quite eerie, since I am currently enlisted within the ranks. The Army is also something that you normally see in various forms such as billboards, television, and of course the actual soldiers. I would like to examine the whole concept of what the videos represent and how it grasps the attention of the viewer, audience, or consumer. If a person is somewhat or completely against the military, after viewing the commercials the viewer might have second thoughts. Overall the videos organize the three rhetorical techniques in a unique matter to where it catches a personââ¬â¢s attention. I can easily say that in the area of Ethos, the videos do exceptionally well, and of course to the Army is very well known for many of its characteristics both in the homeland and overseas and of course the United States Army was established more than two hundred years ago in the year of 1775 a year before the Declaration of Independence! As for Pathos, it moves the viewer with its various scenes as it can be inspirational, motivational, intriguing, etc., hence why it could possibly change the view point of the person from bad to good, but ultimately it is up to the person watching. In the technique of Logos, it appears as a relation to the viewer and how the viewer could benefit from the military in many ways just by wearing a single uniform, or if you are personShow MoreRelatedEssay about RTT Executive Summary 983 Words à |à 4 PagesEXECUTIVE SUMMARY Overview RTT was founded in 2002 by Paul Schenk and Thomas Carlsson to exploit significant advances in the fields of computing and visual sciences, and has developed a series of ââ¬Å"visual intelligenceâ⬠technologies, that offer a leading edge in real world motion capture and real time virtual computer generated 3D graphics technology. Dr. McGlynn has known my father for three years, when he started recruiting his son as a sophomore in high school. When him and his family were in town for a basketball game, I was able interview him and ask him about entrepreneurship. One of my first questions was, ââ¬Å"why did you take the entrepreneurship route in pharmacy?â⬠He said it was all he had been exposed to, oth er than rotations during his last year of pharmacy school and an internship after school with Sigma-Aldrich. He began working at the pharmacy in Stoughton shortly after, and has been there ever since. The personal connections, and differences he can make in peoples life is why he has continued to work as an independent pharmacist. Irony in a good man is hard to find Essay Example For Students
Irony in a good man is hard to find Essay Flannery O Connors story: A Good Man is Hard to Find is the tale of a vacation gone wrong. The tone of this story is set to be one irony. The story is filled with grotesque but meaningful irony. I this analysis I will guide you through the clues provided by the author, which in the end climax to the following lesson: A Good Man is not shown good by outward appearance, language, thinking, but by a life full of good actions. The story begins with the grandmother trying to persuade the family not to travel towards Florida but perhaps go to Tennessee instead. This is based on the grounds that the Misfit, a escaped criminal is on the loose somewhere in Florida. The Ironic part of this is that the grandmother is the only family member to conceive of bad things happening to the family. She bases this solely on the fact that they were traveling in the same direction as the Misfit. This negative thinking quite possibly could have led to the eventual rendezvous between the convict and the family. The following day the family heads off to Florida. Another major point of irony happens as the story revolves around the grandmothers traditional southern values of respect for other people; especially elders, respect for your home and country. At the same moment as the grandmother is lecturing her grand kids about respecting their home state she sees a young Negro boy and says: Oh look at the cute little pickaninny! (Pg 208). Her hypocrisy becomes evident as she wants the family to do what she says not what she does. Its when the family gets ready to stop for barbecued sandwiches at Famous Sams the first of the Symbolism is the story starts to take shape. Before they reach the restaurant the grandmother points out six fenced gravestones in a field. Three adults, two kids, and one baby make six family members. This symbolizes the fact the family will die. The Tower (209) is shaped like a huge tombstone or a church foreshadowing that death is coming. The Grandmother and the restaurant owner get into a discussion about how the world is not the same place it used to be back when the Grandmother was young. They discuss how people are not as nice or good as they used to be. Its ironic how all the negative thinking done by the Grandmother draws the whole family closer to the impending doom. Next the Grandmother remembers an old plantation she visited as a young lady. She knows her son doesnt like to make side trips so she craftily says, There was a secret panel in this house (211) drawing the attention of the children which in turn persuades the father to take the trip on account of the childrens fuss making. Its ironic that every time the Grandmother opens her mouth she says something negative and for every negative thing she says the story takes a turn for the worse. As the family drives down the dirt road O Connor adds another clue to symbolism and foreshadowing. The road looked as if no one had traveled on it in months (pg 212). Such a road suggests the perfect place for escaped convicts to hide. The Grandmother realizes she has made a mistake about what state the plantation is in, she remembers it was actually in Tennessee not in Georgia. Her realization shocked the Grandmother so much that she jumped in her seat causing her cat to un-settle and claw the driver, her son. The cat caused her son to have an accident and the car to flip into the ditch. This is where all the negative thoughts and decisions made by the Grandmother climax into disaster. This part also shows how egotistical the Grandmother really is, she realizes that it is her fault they came down this road but fearing for her own emotions she decides not to tell the rest of the family. While sitting on the bank of the road trying to recuperate from the accident a car drives down the road. Three men get out of the car and once again thinking only of herself .

The Financial and European Economic Crisis 2008 â⬠2012
Introduction Global financial crisis which too place in 2008-2012 was the worst financial crisis of the time which can be compared to the great depression of 1930ââ¬â¢s only (Dick 2009). This global crisis is also known as the great recession or the late 2000s financial crisis due to the timing of its occurrence and its overall implication. This crisis had a negative impact on different sectors of the economy.Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on The Financial and European Economic Crisis 2008 ââ¬â 2012 specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More For instance, in the housing sector, it resulted in foreclosures, several evictions, and a widespread unemployment levels. In the financial sub sector, it caused several collapse of major financial institutions; down pricing of several stock market prices. It also resulted in the declines in billions of consumer wealth and failures in businesses due to decline in the overall econ omic activity. This crisis was not a natural disaster but was initiated complex factors. For instance, in the United States, it was caused by banking sector liquidity and valuation problems which occurred in 2008. Specifically, the problem was necessitated by the failure of regulators and credit rating agencies to correct predict the situation, complex and high risk financial products, unrevealed conflicts of interest, open-minded application of Gaussian copula function and the failure of effective tracking of data provenance. The opponents argue that credit agencies failed to correctly price the mortgages related products while the governments were also rigid in relaxing the regulatory practices in order to adequately address the financial challenges of the 21st century. This caused the value of securities linked to the housing to rise causing a lot of havoc to the financial institutions. The fall in the value of securities were partly attributed to the low confidence from investor s, bank insolvency and decline in credit availability. Such events as decline of the trade in the international market along with the extreme tightening of the credit led to the quite predictable consequences, one of them is the lowering of the level of the economic development in the global perspective. To correct such adverse situation, several governments employed different fiscal stimuli programmes, institutional bailouts and monetary expansion policies. This slowed the rampaging crisis which ended between the year 2008 and 2009.Advertising Looking for essay on business economics? Let's see if we can help you! This situation started from the end of year 2009 due to fear amongst investors as a result of rising government liabilities around the globe coupled with the downgrading of countries liabilities in some European states. By the end of year 2000, European finance ministers accepted a rescue plan valued at 75 billion sterling pounds to offer financial stability. To restore confidence in the euro zone and prevent the collapse of economies, several attempts were also proposed. The first step was the acceptance of the universal fiscal union by all states, one of the conditions was that each country was obliged to put in action a balance budget amendment. The second necessary condition for all banks was that all of them agreed to accept a 53.5 percent write off agreement to debts owed to private creditors in Greece and finally, an agreement was reached to expand the European Financial Stability Facility by 250 billion pounds with an additional requirement of 9 percent capitalization set on all European banks. This resulted in stabilization of most European economies while others like Greek, Portugal and Ireland which constitute almost over 6 percent of the Euro zoneââ¬â¢s gross domestic product were still left behind. However, during this period, the regional currency remained stronger against many currencies and trading partners. This crisis was caused by a multiple of complex factors. First, it was caused by the easy credit conditions of 2002-2008 which encouraged high risk lending and borrowing practices amongst banks. Globalization of finance, real estate bubbles resulting in high prices, slow economic growth of 2008, fiscal policies choices of government revenues and expenses, diverse strategies employed to bail out troubled financial institutions and private bond holders and assuming private debt burdens.Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on The Financial and European Economic Crisis 2008 ââ¬â 2012 specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More Finally, other schools of thought argued that, the problem was necessitated by a pool of savings gathered between 2000-2007 periods which overwhelmed regulatory mechanisms. Apart from the Euro zone, the global crisis lowered the level of economic development in other countries of the world. In this paper, we will focus on the Australian banks. Table 1: Interest income and operating expenses of National Australian Bank 2006 2007 2008 2009 2010 Interest income (Million $) 14.6 15.4 16.9 8.2 Operating expenses (Million $) 15.23 7.4 7.3 2.4 Variation in interest income 0.28% 8.30% 5.80% 9.70% -3.30% % changes in cost 4.98% 0.90% -2% -2.40% Source: National Australian Bank (2006; 2007; 2008; 2009; 2010;2011). During the crisis of 2007-2008, the return on equity of this bank dropped drastically for the high of 17.1 percent to 14.30 percent representing an almost 3 percent drop. This drop was also witnessed after the crisis in 2009 where the mark reached its lowest level of 11.9%. However, by the end of 2010, return on equity started gaining momentum and recorded an increase of 1 percent to settle at 12.9 percent which is a massive increase in the financial sector. Conclusion In conclusion, it should be mentioned that the financial and European economic crises of the years 2008 ââ¬â 2012 had made a great impact on the global economy and influenced economic development of each country of the world. In particular, it have had a negative impact on the Australian banking sector. This is evidenced in the financial statement of the National Australian Bank. The recent events d ictate particular actions that governments should take to restore the economies of their states. Thus, It is now important for government to come up with good control mechanisms to help mitigate more impact of these crises on these banks.
